Halloween/Fall
The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything
We love to act this story out during the month of Halloween. It's a story about this little old lady who goes for a walk in the woods and meets the various parts of a scarecrow along the way: shoes, pants, a shirt, gloves, a pumpkin head, and a hat. We gather these materials, read the story and then act it out as we read through it. Acting stories out helps kids develop connections to the literature and helps them develop language.

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one said, "oh my, it's getting late."
The second one said, 'There are witches in the air."
The third one said, "But we don't care."
The fourth one said, "I'm ready for some fun."
The fifth one said, "Let's run and run and run."
oo oo went the wind and (clap) out went the lights.
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

I'm a Little Scarecrow"I'm a little scarecrow, stuffed with hay.
Here I stand in a field all day.
When I see the crows, I like to shout,
"Hey, you crows, you better get out!"
